From the local newspaper:
"Most managers know it can be difficult to set up a successfull cycling team. Today we talked to Harry, Manager from team superduke. Harry says he has made quite some beginner mistakes as well.
"A friend talked me into OCM", Harry started. "I signed up, chose a team name and decided to start as a climbing team. I was not very serious at that time but it got more and more serious. Because i didn't start that serious i've made some choices i now regret, kind of... The team name being one of them (and i don't just mean the error of the name not starting with a capitol 'S', Harry laughed).
I didn't find any talents in my team and burned half of the team's buget on scouting. I finally managed to pick up a young rider, Michael van Damme.
At first i was unsure on what to do with him because he is a sprinter where as my other riders were climbers. I've decided to give the lad a chance. I've sacked all other riders, except Willem de Maar, and sent Michael on training camp. VD was very excited and thankfully promised me to work his butt off."
So he did.
"He returned from training with quite impressive results but the best part was when Micheal told me he hasn't reached his full potential yet. Michael told me he will pick up his training when the holidays are over. We are both very curious how much more training he can take."
"His talents have been noticed by other teams. It is true some teams have shown interest in Michael.
Michael and i have talked about it and the outcome is very clear: Michael stays at our team and will be our captain for next seasons."
Michael added: "I'm very thanksful for getting this opportunity. It just feels wrong leaving the team at this point. I'd like to get some results with the team first before even looking for other challenges. The only issue we've talked about is the lack of support in a race. Harry has assured me he will sign some leadouts this season and/or train some so i'm very happy and confident the upcoming seasons will go well."
Well, despite having made some beginner mistakes we're positive team superduke will find it's place in OCM. We wish them the very best and good luck!"
